With the closure of Government House Wellington for a three-year conservation project, when resident in the capital, the Governor-General, Hon Sir Anand Satyanand and Lady Susan Satyanand, will reside at Vogel House in Lower Hutt, which has been renamed Government House Vogel in the interim. Vogel House was built as a wedding gift for Jocelyn Riddiford from her parents when she married James Vogel in 1932. In 1966 Mrs Vogel gifted the property to the government as a Prime Ministerial residence. The House has been the official residence of, among others, Prime Minister, the late Rt Hon Sir Robert Muldoon, and for a short time Prime Minister, the late Rt Hon David Lange. From 1999 to 2008, it was the home of the Hon Jim Anderton.
