McIntrye Screen
McIntrye Screen
This is a detail of a screen painted by Peter McIntyre, the most recognised New Zealand artist of the Post War period. The double-sided screen was commissioned by Lady Freyberg in 1951 (Lord Freyberg VC was Governor-General from 1946 to 1952) to compensate for the lack of view of Wellington harbour from Government House. The "day side" was shown at breakfast, and by dinner the screen was turned around to this side, the "night side".
